Swift Underground is an turn-key fibre optic installation company located in Steinbach, MB. We use industry leading equipment and technologies to install, test, and deliver high-speed fibre networks. We are currently seeking a qualified individual to fill the role of Telecom Estimator.

Position Summary:

Swift has begun constructing FTTH networks to thousands of homes for multiple ISPs. The individual in this position will be responsible for the processes involved in the installation of fibre optic network builds in and outside of Manitoba. The Telecom Estimator's portfolio will include acquiring RFP opportunities and bidding on new projects and supporting Project Managers with administrative tasks throughout project execution.

As part of the larger management team, you and your team will be key contributors to the architecture and development of the fibre optic construction work ongoing. Multiple projects will be built in parallel, both in Southeast Manitoba and throughout Manitoba as a whole.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Seek out new project opportunities for bidding
  • Review project specifications, drawings, and plans to understand requirements and scope of work
  • Conduct detailed cost analysis, considering materials, equipment, subcontractors, and other related expenses
  • Collaborate with the Senior Estimator and Project Managers to develop accurate cost estimates
  • Prepare comprehensive project estimates using estimating software
  • Provide administrative support to the Project Management team as needed
  • Identify project risks and uncertainties that may impact cost estimates and provide recommendations to mitigate risk
  • Develop and maintain a database of price lists, cost factors, and historical data
  • Coordinate with suppliers, contractors, and vendors to obtain quotes and pricing information for materials and services
  • Liaise, consult and communicate with engineers, architects, owners, contractors and subcontractors, and prepare the most accurate estimate quote/estimate
  • Prepare and present project estimates to internal management and clients
  • Review and analyze project contracts, identifying any cost implications, terms and conditions

The Ideal Candidate Will Possess:

  • Minimum 3 years of telecom estimating experience or equivalent construction estimation experience
  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills
  • In-depth knowledge of construction industry best practices and current labour, material, and equipment costs
  • Ability to read and interpret project documentation such as blueprints, specifications, and contracts
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Solid communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and follow through on strict deadlines
  • Extensive experience running construction RFPs and negotiating construction contracts utilizing fixed price, unit price and time and materials contracting models – understanding of advantages / disadvantages of the various models
  • Proven ability to manage relationships with design and construction contractors, consultants, subcontractors ensuring defined / contracted responsibilities are met
  • Demonstrated ability to implement processes and best practices which improve communication and allow teams to scale
  • Attention to detail ensuring accurate construction documentation and written standards are created for use by Swift construction crews
  • Proven ability to break down barriers and foster collaboration across functions and teams
  • Willingness to challenge the status quo and look for new and innovative solutions

Compensation:

Beginning salary $24/hr - $35/hr based on experience. Future raises and advancement opportunities based on job performance.
