Company Description:
Swift Underground is an turn-key fibre optic installation company located in Steinbach, MB. We use industry leading equipment and technologies to install, test, and deliver high-speed fibre networks. We are currently seeking qualified individuals to join our Fibre Construction crews.
Position Summary:
The individual in this position will be hands on in building fibre optic outside plant. Responsibilities include heavy equipment operation, trenching, and cable installation. This position will assist our current Construction Technicians in the field, and will include tools and equipment required for the job. Our ideal candidate will highly value honesty, enjoy the outdoors, and be in good physical condition. Interest in computer and networking technologies is a plus. This is considered to be a seasonal term position (May to December) with the possibility to continue through the winter build season.
Essential Job Functions:
• Assist in the loading/unloading of equipment and supplies needed for daily work assignments, setting-up of work site traffic and safety controls and properly securing work area.
• Hand dig with shovels, picks, digging bars to expose located utilities, access underground vaults, and complete trenches.
• Operate excavator, cable plow, drop plows, skid steers, dump trucks, etc.
• Place conduit and/or cables in trenches, splice conduit sections (install couplers) as directed, place anchors, pedestals, vaults, etc. to complete construction tasks.
• Fully restore work site at completion of daily work, refill trenches and holes, tamp soil.
• When required and if appropriately licensed and authorized, drive or operate construction equipment used on the job site to complete daily work assignments.
• Clean and maintain all company vehicles and equipment assigned for use.
• Willingness to work shifts as assigned, including daily overtime when necessary.
• Possession of a valid driver’s license or capable and eligible to acquire a driver’s license. Class 3 license with Air would be considered an asset.
Position Qualifications:
• Ability to travel to be onsite and to work effectively outside in variable weather conditions.
• Support all company policies and safety practices.
• Able to communicate with customers and co-workers in a professional manner.
• Ability to use various power and hand tools.
• This position could include students returning to school in the Fall.
• Be responsible for and operate company vehicles in a safe manner.
Compensation:
Beginning salary $20-$35/hr. Future raises and advancement opportunities based on job performance.
